When imaging helps

Most musculoskeletal problems are diagnosed by examination and do not need a scan. Imaging is useful when the result would change what we do — for example a suspected fracture after an injury, persistent nerve symptoms, a joint that locks or gives way, or pain that is not behaving as expected.

What we can arrange

  • X-ray – bones and joints: suspected fractures, arthritis, alignment
  • MRI – soft tissue, discs, nerves, ligaments, cartilage, tendons
  • MRI with contrast – where a clinician needs more detail, for example after surgery or when infection or other specific causes need to be ruled out

Our clinicians can refer directly to our partner imaging centre, often with same- or next-day appointments, subject to availability, and we go through the report with you at your follow-up. Where a medical opinion or prescription is needed we can also arrange an online GP consultation.

Urgent cases

If you have had an injury and suspect a fracture, or have a sudden flare-up that needs assessing today, call us first — we will see you the same day where we can and arrange imaging if needed. If you cannot reach us, go to A&E. Chest pain, loss of bladder or bowel control, a sudden severe headache or rapidly worsening weakness are emergencies: call 999.

Add-on treatments (£35 · 15 min) are added to an initial assessment or follow-up visit and cannot be booked on their own. Equipment-based treatments follow an initial assessment.
